It’s my understanding that the like feature will still be there, you just won’t be able to see the NUMBER of likes. So it would just show “liked by lifebyallison_ and others” as opposed to showing a specific number. But you will still be able to see the number of likes that YOUR own photo has. Everyone is freaking out about it, but likes are not going to go away completely.
So as an influencer, I think this is super important. Many many people play the comparison game. “How did SHE get that many likes and I only got this many?” Stuff like that, when in reality it doesn’t even matter. I think most people are nervous as to how this is going to affect partnerships with brands and I don’t think it will have any affect. There are multiple websites that anyone can go on and audit any public Instagram account to see how many followers they have, how many of those followers are fake bots, how many likes they get, how many comments they get, etc. so I think brands will just do that. Some people are speculating that brands will ask for screenshots and in my opinion that would be very unprofessional considering there are all those free websites to easily audit accounts.
It has been said that this will cause people to put out the type of content that they WANT to put out versus what they think will get a lot of likes. I think this is true for “regular” Instagram accounts. But for influencers, likes and comments are still going to be important. I know for myself, I have a certain aesthetic I keep with my page. I only use certain colors in my photos and edit them a specific way so that my page flows well, and I’d want to keep that up. That’s another thing that helps when working with brands.
So overall, I don’t think it’ll change anything in the influencer world. Engagement will still be super important, aesthetic is important, you just won’t see the number. That doesn’t bother me at all and I actually think they should do the same thing with comments.
